Spring Clean Your Smile

It is that time of year again, the first bulbs are just starting to appear, and spring is in the air. Now is the time when we look to spring clean our houses, getting rid of clutter and start looking towards the warmer summer months.

But what about your smile? In this blog, we have 5 top tips to get your smile ready for spring.

1. Oral hygiene

It is important to ensure that you brush your teeth, twice a day using a fluoride toothpaste, at night and at one other time and use interdental cleaning aids, such as floss, tape or interdental brushes to clean in between teeth daily, to remove any debris which can become trapped. After brushing it is best to spit, not rinse, as this will allow the fluoride in your toothpaste to stay in contact with your teeth for as long as possible.

2. Focus on your diet and exercise

Exercise has been proven to be very beneficial for oral health, so dust off your running gear or walking shoes and make the most of the longer days. Whether you like to go out for walks or enjoy a session at the gym, the important thing is that you get moving.

Eating too much of the wrong food is not only bad for your body, it is also bad for your oral health. In spring and summer, make the most of strawberry season. Strawberries are not only a great source of antioxidants which is great for skin, they’re renowned for keeping teeth whiter because they contain malic acid, an enzyme that encourages saliva production, so you naturally rinse your mouth as you eat.

3. Quit for good

Smoking can cause staining, gum disease, tooth loss and in the most serious cases cancer, damaging teeth and gums. Why not use this year’s No Smoking Day on the 14th March to take the leap and quit for good?

4. Book an appointment with the hygienist

The hygienist focuses on preventative dentistry and alongside a scale and polish, which will remove stains and brighten and whiten your teeth, the hygienist is trained to offer help and advice on the best oral hygiene routine to meet your needs. This ensures that your teeth are kept in the best possible condition in between appointments and ensures you keep your natural teeth for as long as possible.

 5. Budget for your dental treatment

Dental care should never be viewed as a luxury.
