The first step in your Invisalign journey is a free consultation, but even this step can be daunting for some patients. Many patients are reluctant to book because they are worried that they will get pushed into choosing a treatment they don’t want. To help you to understand what happens during an initial consultation, we’ve put together this quick guide.
What is an Invisalign consultation?
Before you can start your Invisalign journey, you’ll need a consultation to make sure it’s the right choice for you. It’s a chance to ask questions and make sure that you’re a suitable candidate for the treatment. Not everyone is suited to this treatment plan, and there might be other orthodontic treatments that would be more successful.
The consultation is not a sales pitch and patients don’t need to worry about making a decision on the day about if they go ahead with treatment. However, we do recommend that you think carefully about if you would like to go ahead with Invisalign treatment before booking a consultation as this will help us to tailor the consultation to your needs.
What should I expect during the consultation?
There are a few different steps to the consultation process, here’s what you can expect:
How does the iTero scanner work?
The iTero scanner is one of the most innovative parts of the Invisalign treatment plan. It is a wand device that is placed inside your mouth and moved around. It scans your teeth and gums to create a 3D image of your current teeth positioning.
This is helpful as it provides an accurate view of your current teeth positioning. Every tooth is then isolated and the program tracks the optimum movement path to put it into the correct alignment. This forms the basis of your Invisalign treatment, as the movements can be tracked in small increments and this forms the basis of your treatment plan.
It’s a smart piece of technology that uses 3D imaging and AI to help create a complete treatment plan. In the past, dentists would have to make manual adjustments to braces depending on how your teeth responded to the previous adjustment. But with AI technology, we can track the entire treatment plan and give the patient an idea about how their smile would look if they stick with the treatment plan.
What if I’m not a candidate for Invisalign?
Not everyone is a suitable candidate for Invisalign. We won’t recommend it for everyone, particularly if we believe that you won’t achieve the results that you are looking for.
For example, if your teeth are already close to perfect alignment, you might not see any change from Invisalign treatment. Likewise, with severe overcrowding and more extreme rotations, Invisalign might not be able to achieve the results you are looking for. In this case, you might be better with traditional fixed orthodontics.
Why is the consultation free?
The consultation is free because we don’t want there to be any additional barriers to seeking out this treatment. If patients had to pay for treatment, they would only book if they are already certain this is the treatment they want. This would make it more difficult for patients to access the information they need to make an informed choice about their treatment options.
