What are dental implants?

Dental implants are small titanium screws that provide an anchor for a dental restoration. They are placed in a small pocket in your jawbone where they fuse with the bone material. Once healed, the implant provides a strong anchor for a bridge, crown or denture. The restoration will look and feel like a real tooth and can last a lifetime with the right care.

More questions?

How long does the entire dental implant process take?

This will depend on the type of dental implants, the quantity and the placement. Healing times will also differ between patients. As a rough guide, the procedure will take place over three or more visits. During your first visit, we will place the implant and allow it to heal. Once the implant has bonded with your jawbone, we will expose the implant and place a healing abutment. And finally, the crown is placed on the implant. The entire process can take around 6 months to complete. Bond grafting will make treatment times longer.

Who is not suitable for dental implants?

During your consultation, we will discuss the lifestyle and health factors that will impact your eligibility for dental implants. If you are a smoker, have a suppressed immune system, or you are taking certain medications, you might not be a suitable candidate. Likewise, if you grind your teeth regularly, this can impact the success rate of dental implants.

How soon after an extraction can I have dental implants?

We will give the extraction site time to heal before placing your dental implants. This helps to ensure the bone is healthy and strong enough to hold the implant. This can take between 6 – 10 weeks depending on the patient.

How much do dental implants cost?

We offer transparent and all-inclusive pricing so you know exactly what you’re getting. A single dental implant starts at £2,000 with additional fees if bone grafting is required. For a full arch restoration, the cost will be £15,000 per arch, or £25,000 for both. We offer payment plans to help you spread the cost of treatment.

What is the age limit for dental implants?

There is no upper age limit for dental implants. The patient’s health is the most important consideration. If you aren’t sure if you’re eligible for dental implants, get in touch with Leigh Dental Centre today to find out more.

Is there a cheaper alternative to dental implants?

A dental bridge would be a cheaper alternative to dental implants. Remember that a dental bridge will need to be replaced and may not last as long as a dental implant.
